Rudi and Adolf Dassler
Alright, so a few years back, I was really into shoes.. like, really into shoes. I bought all the expensive and new shit, but to me, that wasn't enough. I had to actually have knowledge about shoes. And I think the most interesting thing I came across was about Rudi and Adoph Dassler.
Rudi and Adolph were brothers who started Gebruder Dassler OHG in 1924. They supplied athletic shoes to the German Olympic team in 1928 and 1932. Perhaps the biggest moment for the Dasslers is when Jesse Owens won his gold medals pissing off a very already angry Hitler, while wearing the Dassler's shoes. But for some reason, in 1948, disagreements brought about the down fall of the company and Rudi moved to neighboring town. Each starting their own, individual and unique shoe company.
Adolph or "Adi" then became the founder of his own athletic brand of shoes that would focus on trainers, which would later be worn by both Joe Fraizer and Muhammad Ali. In 1949, the three stripes became trademark, and Adidas was born. And around the same, Rudi went on to make his own company as well, he's also known as the founder of Puma.
Something interesting, ADIDAS comes from Adi's first name, and the first letters of his last name. "adi" from his nickname, and "das" from Dassler.
Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the Mexico Games fighting for black power. Puma's at the place of a historic event.
Hope you guys enjoyed this!

I just love the different shades of blue, and how the rainbow is just accented. Plus, look how cute that guy looks.
I really wish I went to go see it. Damnit.

Macropinna Microstoma
Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute recently solved the half-century-old mystery of a fish with tubular eyes and a transparent head. Ever since the "barreleye" fish Macropinna microstoma was first described in 1939, marine biologists have known that its tubular eyes are very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a "tunnel-vision" view of whatever was directly above the fish's head. A new paper by Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler shows that these unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fish's head. This allows the barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating.
Yes, there's even a video of it... in HD.

Armani on 5th Ave.
Sorry stairporn.com, but you guys fail if you're not featuring the new Armani store in New York. This shit is amazing. Here's some text taken from Fuksas Studio.
After Hong Kong Chater House and Tokyo Ginza Tower, Fifth Avenue completes the trilogy of the Armani Stores designed by Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas for the famous designer.
Situated in the centre of New York, in one of the street more known, the project takes up the first three floors of two buildings localized between the 5th Avenue and the 56th Street. Besides the basement, the show room develops on four differents levels and it’s conceived of an only space, without clear distinctions, a singing space connected with the power generated by the whirlwind of the staircase.
Visit the Contemporist or Fuksas for more info.
